Try to imagine how I tell people my wife is a Ch'ti (from north of France near Belgian border)! Early on after arriving here I thought I said 'It looks like a storm is going to come over us' in conversation with a handful of neighbours, and surprised by intake of breath and shocked looks - turned out with the accent they thought i'd used a slang/dialect word for homosexual instead of storm! After 8 years in the north I picked up the dialect and patois, and convos often crazier now living in Bretagne. No hold on ditto Beth! Woese for me than ever, with an Ulster/Scots accent, that hasn't calmed much after over tan and a half years living in France, and believe it or not many French regions have strong accents and dialects.
